Lemonade. Expressions. Food. Recap

Photographer Shola Bashorun

On May 22, 2016- Sunday, Rebekah hosted twelve women for a sister circle in her home. It was described by many of the ladies, "Amazing". And it was.

Expressions. Lemonade. Food. was an intimate gathering of who yearn to express themselves to other women freely and with no judgement. Beyonce's inspiring Lemonade visual album captivated the strengths, struggles, and triumphs as a black woman. The capturing imagery plus the honest lyrics spoke to many black women. It was refreshing to witness the usually private Beyonce air out all her dirty laundry. But it was poetic and empowering and just bad-ass. The album inspired us. To hone on the gathering of black women speaking about their joy and pain, we included the viewing of the visual album at the end of the night.

In the everyday hustle of bustle, work/home/life balance. We sometimes isolate ourselves. We're becoming more connected online and disconnected from social interactions.

We wore blue to align with the 5th chakra: throat. We enjoyed a great exercise that involved answering 4 questions that were placed around the house:

1. If money was not an issue, what would you be doing with your life right now?

3. What is your worst fear?

2. What is one actionable step you can take right now to make question 1 a reality?

3. What is your worst fear?

Then we read them aloud and discussed them. We laughed, cried, drank wine, danced, ate, and most certainly activated our throat chakras. Like a few sisters said,

I had so much fun with you! You better enjoy that Lemonade and it was good to just be in such an atmosphere. Uplifting each other
